Hold Position is telling you where you are in the queue line of people waiting for that title. You can view your holds list at any time by logging in to My Account and clicking on "Hold Requests" on the menu.

If you are position 1 of 2, that means you are next in line, and there are 2 total people (including you) waiting for that item. If you are position 13 of 37, you are the 13th out of 37 people waiting for that item. Your hold position is determined by the date you placed the hold on that particular item.

Keep in mind that queue line only shows the number of Active holds on an item. Inactive (suspended) holds will not show up until their activation date. If an inactive hold was originally placed at an earlier date than your hold, it will move ahead of yours in the queue once it becomes active. This can sometimes cause confusion, as someone who is in position 1 of 3 could change to position 2 of 4 (example only).

The hold position does not have anything to do with the number of copies we have of the title. You can search for an item in our Catalog and click on "Availability" to see the number of copies for that particular item.
