A qr code, or Quick Response code, is a special 2-dimensional bar code. When scanned, they push content such as websites, applications, and information to mobile devices. QR codes have to be scanned, or "read", by specific scanners which can decode the images.

Smartphones equipped with a camera, a QR code reader application and an internet connection can be used to decode the images.

An example of a QR code. Scanning this code will open a link which directs viewers to the Alachua County Library's Facebook page.
